Before your procedure
How to prepare — and what we check first.
Good preparation protects your result. Here's the blood work we run to clear you for surgery, and exactly what to do in the days before — no guesswork.
Lab work we run
We complete standard pre-op blood work on site — results back to your surgeon the same day — to confirm you're cleared for the procedure.
Complete blood count (CBC)
Confirms healthy blood cells and rules out anemia or infection.
Coagulation / clotting panel
Makes sure your blood clots normally — important for any procedure.
Blood glucose (and HbA1c if relevant)
Checks blood sugar control, which affects healing.
Infectious-disease screening
Standard hepatitis B/C and HIV serology for safety, yours and the team's.
Your surgeon may add tests based on your health history. This is general information, not medical advice.
The week before
- Stop smoking and avoid alcohol — both slow healing and affect circulation
- Pause blood-thinners and supplements (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo) — only with your doctor's okay
- Keep taking prescribed medications for chronic conditions unless told otherwise
- Arrange your time off — most people want 5–7 days before returning to normal routines
The day of
- Eat a light breakfast — you'll be there most of the day
- Wear a loose, button-up shirt (nothing pulled over your head afterward)
- Bring your ID/passport and a list of your medications
- Skip caffeine and energy drinks that morning
- Arrange a ride, or let us handle your transport and crossing
